Study at MediScan Systems, Chennai

Technical Validation of ARTSENS®

“ARTSENS – an image-free system for non-invasive evaluation of arterial compliance”, in 35th Annual International Conference of the IEEE EMBS, 2013, pp. 4054–4057.

HTIC-IIT Madras conducted this study in collaboration with MediScan Systems, Chennai on 106 volunteers. Statistically significant correlations were obtained between stiffness indices measured by the ARTSENS Desktop and an imaging system.

Objectives

1. To demonstrate the ability of ARTSENS to perform in-vivo measurements outside the laboratory setting.

2. Validate the technical functionality by comparing the carotid stiffness indices measured from ARTSENS Desktop with those measured using a state of the art imaging system (Aloka Prosound α10 with eTracking).

Results and Observations

1. The correlation co-efficients for both EP and AC measured from ARTSENS with respect to those from the Aloka system were greater than 0.7 (p < 0.001).

2. Deming’s regression analysis of the data illustrated that there was no bias in the measurement of end-diastolic diameter and arterial compliance.

3. Analysis of the data collected in this in-vivo validation study also demonstrated a clear increasing trend in the stiffness of the carotid artery with age.
